El Camino Cantina is bringing a bespoke Tex-Mex experience to Byron Bay in the new retail, dining and entertainment precinct, Mercatoon Byron. El Camino Cantina is unashamedly Tex-Mex, which is short for Texan-Mexican and distinct from true Mexican cuisine. Humming with trademark, cool tunes and colourful sombreros, the eclectic cantina accommodates 241 diners, including 130 seated on a spacious balcony overlooking Jonson Street, where customers can enjoy Byron’s balmy ambience. A fusion of urban chic and coastal cool, El Camino Cantina evokes a sense of playfulness. Walls are a visual feast of bright, custom-made artwork and bold rock posters by artist Ben Brown, colourful calavera and other quirky touches, which fuse with accents of rustic Mexican haciendas, including weathered wood and reclaimed timbers, earthy tones, and decorative tiles. Large-screen TVs play music videos and entertainment. Seating is a mix of high-top tables and stools, lower dining tables, and booths – perfect for pairs of diners, small parties, and large group events and celebrations.

El Camino Cantina Byron Bay does not have any private dining rooms, however we can section off Balcony 1 and balcony 2 to offer semi-private areas for both seated and cocktail style functions. Alternatively, we can accommodate large parties across our main dining floor.

Yes, for all events at El Camino Cantina Byron Bay we require a set menu. Our set menus showcase legendary Tex-Mex classics such as the 'Fajita Fiesta' and 'All You Can Eat Tacos' menu. For cocktail style events a Canape menu is available and for cocktail functions over 250 guests food stations are available.
A set menu is implemented to ensure the highest quality of food and service for larger groups.
For events at El Camino Cantina Byron Bay both beverages on consumption and beverage packages are available. We recommend pre-selecting a range of beverages from our beverage list in advance. Our standard recommendation is:

Yes, you may. Additonally, the Rockpool Dining Group Events Team can provide you with contacts to assist you with visually styling your event. Kindly note all decorations excluding floral arrangements are restricted to exclusive events only.

Children are more than welcome into El Camino Cantina, we offer a Kids Menu to ensure everyone is catered to. Please note all minors must be accompanied by their legal parent or guardian, and are required to vacate the premises by 9.30pm. Kindly note our venue does not provide highchairs.

You are able to bring in your own cake. Please note, should you wish to provide your own cake, a cakeage fee will apply.
El Camino is a fun, casual restaurant and this is reflected in our dress code. However we kindly ask for no offensive slogans or logos.
We are able to hold group bookings for a maximum of 24 hours as it is a live booking system. For larger events, please speak to one of our Event Managers - this is dependent on other enquiries and the timeframe of the event.
El Camino Cantina Byron Bay has 8 TVs on site. We have teamed up with a professional third party supplier who are able to deliver any further AV requirements for your event. Please note, AV may only be used in when the venue has been hired exclusively.
A room hire fee is subject to the venue and is event specific. A room hire fee and/or minimum spends will be provided upon quoting.
A minimum spend is the amount that must be met on food and beverage purchases. It includes staffing costs. If, at the conclusion of your Event the minimum spend has not been met, the final bill will be rounded up to reach this amount accordingly. The deficit is payable on the day of and immediately after the conclusion of the Event, by cash or credit card. Additional costs such as Service Charge, theming, security, AV etc is not included in the minimum spend.
A Service Charge is applicable on all groups of 10 guests or more.
